Consumer Study of the EEASY™ Lid Shows How Many People Struggle to Open Jars
By the CCT® Team
Following the launch of the EEASY Lid in Boyer’s stores, we’ve seen significant success in sales with the Darci’s pasta sauce. After seeing how consumers immediately gravitated toward the EEASY Lid, we decided to partner with North Cliff Consultants, Inc. – independent contract testing services for manufacturers and retailers – to design a consumer study, looking at the difficulty of opening traditional jar lids compared to the EEASY Lid.
Prior to the study, we knew there was a good portion of the population who struggled to open jars on a daily basis, making it difficult to prepare a meal for dinner, cook something special for their family, or simply have a quick snack. A lot of these people include the elderly population who have physical ailments such as carpal tunnel, arthritis or cancer.
While we predicted the results from the consumer study were going to be profound, we were shocked to see the true extent of the struggle everyday consumers face.
The study results revealed that nearly 50 percent of consumers struggle to open traditional jars – and not just the elderly population. Consumers in the study were ranged 25-74 years old, showing this is a universal problem for people of all ages. The study targeted 80 people – both male and female – and asked a series of questions to determine the level of difficulty they experience opening traditional jars compared to the EEASY Lid.
Key Findings:
- Nearly 30% of consumers said traditional jar lids took a lot of strength and force to open
- 68.8% of respondents said they would purchase a jar with the EEASY lid if it contained a product they would normally buy
- 50% of participants consider the traditional jar lids old fashioned
- Only 23.8% expected traditional jar lids to be difficult to open, but 48.8% had difficulty actually opening them
